Once in a great while something comes along in our industry that is just so good it needs to be pushed out to the masses. This is one of those times. The Hidden Job Report is a new service that job seekers and recruiters can use to find hidden jobs on the Internet.

TheHiddenJobReport.com is a brain trust idea of Jim Stroud and company that simply reveals “hidden” jobs that are not published on the boards or on the company’s career section. How can this be? It’s simple actually but what’s even better is that TheHiddenJobReport is aggregating these jobs from all over the hidden web and bringing them to the masses.

Use the information s you may, leads for business development for your recruiting business or better yet to make key connections to find yourself a new job before the hiring spree actually kicks off.

Here’s a little video on the service to find hidden jobs.

There are a lot of new services to find and aggregate job postings on the Internet. I wanted to share this one, as it has a unique way of finding hidden jobs, which is something that isn’t addressed much by regular job boards.

Do you recruit game designers? If so this will prove to be helpful. If not, just relate it to something relevant to what you are searching. Video is big today, but the challenge like everything becomes how do you leverage video in your identification process as a sourcer?

I’m not talking about placing video in your blog. I’m talking ripping apart the back end of video games online and at home to gather real leads. It’s very simple. If you are not doing this already, it will become apparent how simple it is to master. If you are doing this with success, share your thoughts.

I’ll use two great examples.

First, let’s say that you are looking to identify developers, designers and testers for your client. All of these people have to already have hands on experience in some form of gaming. How do find these people? There are many ways to do this, but if you haven’t already, than give this a try. See the video below. In less than 90 seconds I get 30 leads to start my name gen process.

See it here:

[wpyt_profile1]S9D2IuT25Cg[/wpyt_profile1]

Links to more examples:

http://bit.ly/dfihAR
http://bit.ly/9isEKS

In the second example let’s work with an entry level role for designers. Say you need to recruit entry level designers, testers and coders. You’re a bit lost since most people already have that experience. You snoop around online but find nothing to relevant other than gaming forums and boards. Just as there are engineering and business schools there are design schools, and if you haven’t already guessed it, yes they are in your main stream large state schools. Gaming is a massive industry and when sourcing you don’t need to focus on the smaller art and design schools any longer.

Take a look at this video from Wilmington University. In the commercial like video for recruitment into the universities design program, we learn a lot. We learn what majors are offered and what types of individuals they are looking to recruit into their university.

Next step: Pick up the phone and call them. Network with them. They will need a job within a few years.

Check it out.

Though essential, email can be a productivity killer. Similar to leveraging social networks to research connections for business, sales or recruiting your inbox can become overwhelming, especially if it is not properly setup to field incoming and track outgoing messages. I wrote about this a while back, but take a look at some new features and more reasons why I love Xobni.

For those that are not familiar it’s an outlook add on that frankly I don’t think I can function without at this point. First off there are 2 versions of the tool (Free and paid). I’ll admit, daycare has been draining my bank account so I am on the budget version, but I am serioulsy pondering paying for the service.

To learn the details on Xobni read the original post

Check out the Xobni Blackberry mobile video below

Why I like Xobni:

I like to know what connections I have within clients, propsects, and dare I say Candidates? Xobni instantly captures the social profiles of those you are communication with. This is insanely helpful when you are on the phone with a candidate, hiring manger or client.

I have a short memory at times and my inbox is laoded with information I certainly cannot remember I have. ie. files, ppts. etc. Xobni instantly indexes and displays your communication lines with contacts. If you are like me and have 12K plus archived messages, than this is essential. Outlook search is pretty poor (at least to me) but with a simple click of a message I can see the entire message string clearly displayed for me, the responses and the conversations had.

I like to track conversations and reference points on the fly, Xobni lets me do that. ( I can see everyone who converses withing that “email circle”) File management: Dialing up a file is as easy as going to a LinkedIn profile. The system immediately indexes and creates profiles for everyone in your outlook that you have communicated with creating threaded conversations similar to comment strings you see on blogs.

AND…..da da da da….It’s mobile!

This video is a Xobni produced video

Lets look a little deeper.

Social Aspects that I like:

Xobni instantly tracks my relationships, connections and conversations I am having, I have had and gives me an educated thought of some conversations or update meetings I should problaby have by tracking past emails and attachments in real time. Xobni pulls soical information from the major social networks and instantaneously lets me see how and who I am connected with.

Here is s real life scenario of how I have success with the tool. More than 12 months ago I spoke with a women who was just phenominal for a role that I was recruiting on. Things did not progress for a few reasons. Less than 1 month ago I was speaking a new client who by the stroke of luck is associated with this candidate.

Was it luck? maybe, but I like to think that this is a case of being armed with the proper tools. Xobni made the correlation between emails showing me that the two parties were conencted. Not aware of there connection I made an introduction to the idea of employment and there you have it. The rest is history.

Luck? Not so sure. I simply did not remember that I had spoken to this women.

Enough of this, Check out the new mobile app for Blackberry. Fantastic app and great features.

This is not ground breaking but it is often overlooked for no other reason than laziness.

A sourcers job is to make friends. Amybeth Hale says it best: “I make friends for a living.” My wife thinks I play on Facebook all day, my friends still say I’m just a recruiter. Me, I say I can find out your history, your grandmothers history and if you’re lucky I will tell you what you will be doing in 5 years.

Back to the point of the video. “Conference Sourcing” is nothing more than either attending conference in person or even online if you need too. The goal for the attendance is to gather information and walk away with cold hard leads.

Here is just one way I have success at this. Take it for what it’s worth, but when you get good at this technique you can rip apart highly targeted conferences, saving yourself incredible amounts of time.

I was asked the other day, why do I share my secrets? The simple answer is that it’s highly unlikely you will be competing with me in my market and even if you are there is no excuse for me not to out source you and win the placement. If I lose the race, I shouldn’t have won.

How I gather 100+ technology leads in 2:32 including the recording.

*Note: As attendees at a conference do not sweat recruiters finding your contact info. It’s a compliment and can serve as a fantastic career move or business opportunity.

Advanced searching with LinkedIn's UI has gotten better. The features are mostly the same, but the layout has made life a lot easier. This coupled with a few added deatires have made sourcing with LinkedIn easier and more effective for recruiters that may not be overly advanced with search.

Recently revamping their advanced search features LinkedIn has given you as a recruiter a fairly good opportunity to leverage some strong filters to narrow you search. Not everyone will understand or have the ability to manipulate search scripts to uncover hidden talent. There is certainly a skill involved in understanding the genetic make up of search and how as a sourcer you need to manipulate data (in a good and ethical way) to meet your search.

If in fact you have this ability, kudos to you. I personally find a pleasure in creating and breaking scripts for a living. If the opposite true, and you can learn how to create simple basic Boolean scripts within LinkedIn, the advanced search filters can be a great help to you.

Take a look at this short video depicting how to leverage the advanced search features within LinkedIn. It’s simple to understand but if used properly will be very effective in your search.

With the addition of LinkedIn prfoile organizer, LinkedIn is starting to make clear strides in becoming the mainstream vehicle for resume sourcing. Of course there are multiple versions of LinkedIn, both paid and non-paid and opinions on both, but take a look at a at least one option I'm startingn to like.

The LinkedIn profile organizer is a neat little feature that LinkedIn has added into the free features of their service. In my opinion it’s to entice the recruiter to trial and ultimately purchase a license to their corporate accounts. Though the feature is handy and certainly serves a purpose, it’s free version is limited. I’ve had the opportunity to use multiple variations of LinkedIn recruiter and though I understand the benefits of the intended features, I am not sure I am sold just yet.

I won’t encourage you one way or the other to purchase, but if you are playing with the idea, a trial may be a good service to run with. I will caution you that, though it is more economical than the job boards it is very expensive, thus not justifying it’s cost to me.

With that being said, the LinkedIn profile organizer does serve as a nice compliment to your

It’s slightly archaic in that its folder based as compared to similar services that leverage tags, but in the end the search is what matters and the openness of LinkedIn search platform is certainly worth the investment. Profile organizer allows you to effectively leverage your strong LinkedIn searches by save and grouping profiles that meet your search criteria.

Take a quick look at the video to understand the profile organizer in greater detail.

Readjusting your profile to better fit your needs seems like something that should’ve been integrated 6 years ago, but the truth is it wasn’t.
I’ve got to say that LinkedIn has really begun to hear the music. It’s a great tool no doubt, but their recent implementations and their road map moving forward is making there foothold that much more exciting. So, if you have heard LinkedIn has recently released the ability for members to rearrange their profile to meet their specific needs. It’s a simple but very meaningful addition.

Just a few thoughts off the top of my head (certainly not the most detailed)

Job Seekers:

Feature your work

Feature parts of your profile that are more significant

Allow recruiters and hiring mangers to be drawn to the meat of your resume

Recruiters:

Draw greater attention to your targets

Guide potential talent and hiring mangers to your current work leveraging some integrated apps

Feature your current opening via attachments and place them front and center

The above is just a sampling but certainly well worth the time playing with the new feature.

With their recent integration with Twitter and their redesign to cater to a more hip professional crowd I think recruiters will start to see a growth in diversity within the membership. Sure it’s diverse now and you won’t see any crazy dramatic up ticks, but keep in mind, as job seekers leverage this ability you as a recruiter may have to readjust your sourcing.

Now it should and hasn’t thus far had an adverse effect on my sourcing even when targeting profiles that have changed. And the reason is that the structure is not changing where the data is housed. It’s simply being adjust on the page. So for now, you are safe, but soon…well, that’s for the next post.

Take a look at LinkedIn’s explanation:

The challenge of 2010 as seen through the eyes of Jerry Albright. Jerry takes a few moments to lay his thoughts down on video for us as his contribution to the 2010 posting carnival here on CruiterTalk. As recruiters and sourcers it's interesting the conversations that are had around sourcing tips and techniques. But often a few things are forgotten. Watch it here:

I like to compare him (in persona) to @animal and “The Recruiting Animal Show”.

I wanted to have Jerry contribute to the carnival this year because it’s often refreshing to hear it straight side stepping the bull. Take a look at his video and his challenge to recruiters. It’s nothing earth shattering but it’s one of those things that we often overlook. It’s a quick Listen.

Should Recruiters label themselves Social Media Experts? Is this a real thing or is it a ploy to look more intelligent to your clients? Clearly there is a defined line between the two. It’s clear a recruiter is a recruiter and a social media expert, well…they deal with social media and it’s role relating to business…or is it. The Antipimp rants on it here.

He’s at it again and boy is it raw. Seems like someone got to the AntiPimp Mr. Scott Gordon. @sgordon70 lights it up with this quick video about social media and recruiters. I have to say that when I finally met Scott in Toronto for Recruitfest this year, I quickly found him to be something different.

Yes he is a recruiter and yes the majority of us have outgoing and influencing voices, but this man is different. He’s fun and insightful but man is he funny when he talks. He’s funny because he’s real and he’s real because he uses his common sense. It’s that simple.
