It’s shaping up to be a Facebook week on Recruitingtools, but that’s OK. I’ve had the opportunity to speak with the folks over at jobmagic the last couple of weeks. In that I’ve run multiple variations of demos and trails of this application both on a corporate level and individual recruiter level.

This is not a paid review. I’ve just had significant success with the tool and felt that I wanted to to share my thoughts. I’ve been speaking with 2 of their people over there. Paul (Thanks for the guidance and product demos) and Jindrich, founder and CEO.

You’ll see the quick breakdown in the video below, but in the end Jobmagic has been givin me a significant reason to use Facebook during the day. It’s certainly not perfect but it’s a damn good tool that you need to evaluate.

You’ve got options to:

Add in a jobs tab to display your careers opportunities from your corporate fanpage or personal page

Search their internal database (growing)

Candidate profile organizer

Job description mathcing with candidates from the internal database

Create, link and share all job posting (Which are Unlimited) across more than 200 social sites

You’ll see how easy you can index your friends on Facebook and how the tool instantly breaks down the demographics and profiles of your connections, how candidates apply and how your jobs are pushed to more than 200 social sites with one click. If you’ve built your Facebook conenctions based on recruitment, industry and location you’ll enjoy this tool 10x’s more.

In the end Jindrich and his team have made significant strides in converting Facebook into a recruiting tool. Take a look at my thoughts here and check them out for a free trial (no affiliate links)

I get emails and calls daily asking how can I use Facebook for recruiting? Well, it’s not always about recruiting when using “social tools” like Facebook. Social tools are also about getting found yourself – Facebook pages are a way to do this.

Recruiters should pay attention to Facebook, because almost everyone is on it. It’s a great way to connect with friends and colleagues. However, good recruiters know that your best candidates are one in the same with your friends and colleagues. Neworking within your personal circle is a great way to find strong candidates that you can put your trust in. So more and more, Facebook is a great way to get more business. Optimizing your Facebook page is one step in the process.

Besides searching for candidates on Facebook and reaching out to people you know or used to know, it’s also important to optimize your own Facebook page. Here are a few tips to optimize your Facebook page and get people to find YOU:

Let people find you from other sources. Link to your Facebook page from your Linkedin profile, website, email, or other ways that you communicate with people.

Get the word out: tell your friends to tell their friends about your page and that you are interested in finding them jobs. If you have any kind of social circle, this will quickly get a lot of people calling you to use your recruiting services or just get career advice. Ask your friends to also link to your Facebook page on their website or other services.

Do you have a company video? Add it to your Facebook page. You want to keep your page professional but still interesting and engaging.

Be conscious of keywords when you are writing text for your pages. Realize that candidates and other people find you through the text that you write. Think about strong keywords for your profession. Do you recruit software developers? Write text about programming languages and typical jobs that you recruit for. This has an added benefit of making you appear informed and relevant to the industry that you are recruiting for.

On any social recruiting effort, make sure that before you use these different systems, you should have well developed professional profile. On Facebook, that means having an optimized Facebook page. Have fun and happy Facebook recruiting!

There are a lot of different ways to approach recruiting with Facebook. It seems like an obvious way to get candidates, since everyone is on Facebook and it’s getting larger every second. But recruiting with Facebook seems to be hard, because unlike Linkedin, which appears to be built for professional sourcing and connection, Facebook is meant for personal connection.

BranchOut might offer an additional layer of functionality to Facebook and make recruiting with Facebook more straight forward. Direct from the Branchout.com site they say: “Every time a Facebook friend joins BranchOut, you see where they used to work, where they work now, and where their friends work. You’d be surprised how many connections you have at companies you’ve always wanted to work at — all through friends of friends. If you’re looking for your dream job, these connections can open the door.”

I say: Forget looking for a job and start looking for candidates. Though the app was not built for that, It’s actually very simple to do. Now my mic was not picking up my audio, so I went MacGyver on you and got a bit creative.

Pros:

See who your connections are

See who their connections are

See who their connections connections are

See where they work and where they used to work

Get a bit creative, connect and recruit

* Disclaimer: I get a lot of calls about recruiting with Facebook – how to do it and how to do it in an automated method. I’ve been using Branchout for a little while to recruit on Facebook and like it. This is not a sponsored posting.

Facebook seems to escape a lot of sourcers when talking about recruiting tools, and for good reason; it’s not a recruiting tool. Or is it? Sourcers are information gathers; the finder of the secrets; the holder of everything hidden, classified and internal. To qualify a tool as “sourcing worthy” does not mean it has an intense search mechnism, in fact the most significant best practices often don’t.

Here’s a look at how I ad source on a daily basis to gather compeitive intel on clients, targets and candidates. I am using Facebook as my example to find engineers via sponsored ads and fanpages but you should apply this to any site online that you are visiting.

Special mention to @Jerry_Albright from VerbalSummary.com. –> Watch and see why. (Purely a coincidence)

Managing the recruiting process is tough; especially when everyone is breathing down your neck to use social tools. This is ok, but if you don’t properly manage the process you will see no significant return and fail miserably. Here is the second piece to recruiting with Facebook event and lists.

That raised a few good questions as to some of the tips we gave in that that video. The biggest question was around leveraging Facebook lists.

Here is my quick .2 cents and a 2 minute video showing you the madness.

Q: Do you really use Facebook lists and events?

A: Yes

Q: Does it get you results?

A: Yes and no

Q: How do you create and send to the list? I can’t figure it out.

A: Watch the video below and tweet it like there’s no tomorrow.

Pros:

Quick and easy to use

Helps organize and otherwise useless mess of contacts

Puts significance into wasting your time on Facebook

Helps to seriously get some solid return out of your efforts.

Cons:

Can still only send to 20 people at one time

Could have some better integrations and list management features similar to the new LinkedIn features. (Mark – take note)

A lot of recruiters say that they recruit on Facebook, but I’ve never really seen any strong results from most of those recruiters. Facebook events are a great way to incorporate your Facebook profile with recruiting and sharing your company’s recruitment message.

The stats are overwhelming and numbers don’t lie. If you are like most recruiters, you think about recruiting with Facebook, but never really take full advantage of its features. One feature that I use with clients both internal and external is the use of Facebook Events for recruiting. Over 3.5 million events are created each month. That’s an enormous number to ignore. So why do you?

Let’s focus on using Facebook events to create a viable shortlist of potential talent. Facebook holds a wealth of information on it’s members. Phone numbers, email contacts, locations, company, work history and more. The depth of information you can attain solely depends on the profile and how the individual has his /her security settings.

I’ve found the vast majority of profiles share it all, so let’s talk about how we can leverage this info and how this plays into leveraging Facebook events.

Let’s take a look at the pros and cons on using Facebook events for recruiting:

Pros:

More than 3.5 million events created each month

50% of our active users log on to Facebook in any given day (more than 400 million active users)

More than 35 million users update their status each day with more than 60 million total updates

Average user has 130 friends on the site and sends 8 friend request a month

A Facebook user on average will leave 25 + comments per month

The Average user is invited to 4 events per month, become a fan of 4 pages per month and click the like button 9 times a month.

Cons:

You have to be savvy enough to organize yourself and not waste time

You have to actually manage your friends and not be a Facebook pimp

You have to engage with your connections and actually connect with them for a reason other than building the largest friends network,

Now, take a look at the video and see how I use Facebook events.

Facebook events feature is super popular now and it seems like it’s getting more so every day. Your candidates are hanging out there, so you should be there too. Recruiting with Facebook events feature takes some practice, but it should be a valuable tool for your recruiting arsenal.

Yesterday, insidefacebook.com’s Justin Smith posted a great interview with the CEO of Facebook discussing were Facebook is today and where he envisions his brainchild in the future. This posting is different than normal but the interview seemed to make a lot of sense to me. Normally, I’m the guy that says “Man, why didn’t I think of that” when I hear about Facebook being developed in a college dorm. It’s a great interview but one comment really stood out to me that I wanted to share with everyone.

“The biggest one that we are pushing is Facebook has people’s real identity. You are yourself on Facebook. You connect to your real friends, they’re real relationships. You put in real information, it’s really you.”

It’s interesting to me because it’s what we all talk about each day, but how many of us actually put ourselves out there? We talk about transparency, authenticity, helping and giving back to your network, but how many of us actually do this on daily basis? Do you practice what you preach? This is a thought that runs through my mind almost daily.

As I read the interview I couldn’t help but think that this kid has revolutionized the world we live in. He given us the motivation and creativity that we somehow couldn’t find before Facebook. Before you laugh at me here, think about it like this. How many of you reading this posting today would be in the position or role that you are currently in had Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn (among others) not come along? Would you be Blogging? Presenting? What about the 300 Webinar’s on recruiting with Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter? What would these people be doing?

I know it’s changed my role. I’ve met a lot of people offline that I had originally met online since I’ve joined the mobile revolution. It’s an amazing experience when things work out and you connect with someone half way around the world from you, speak with them about an idea they have and help them to realize their dream. Maybe that’s why I bought into this game so deeply, but I’m curious to learn your thoughts on these feelings.

Leave a comment and let us know your thoughts. What would you be doing if Facebook never was…and what site do you visit most outside of Facebook?
